Visit Durham conference market strategy

We are really lucky to travel around in our jobs and see beautiful places. This is certainly the case with our new project for Visit County Durham.  Durham is a really pretty town which is rich in history and has amazing buildings. Many of these are available for conferences and events including the Cathedral, Castle and the Town Hall.

Because it’s small and attracts large amounts of leisure visitors at certain times of year  it hasn’t focused on how it could maximise conference business before, which is where we come in.

The university has many specialist subjects which generate significant numbers of conferences and meetings and the local experts offer a great opportunity to invite bids for association conferences. The city is compact, easy to walk around and has very low levels of crime. And in how many cities can you have a gala reception and dinner in such a beautiful cathedral?

Sally Greenhill has prepared a first draft report with recommendations on the way forward for business tourism in Durham which she  discussed with their team  in March. The action plan and recommendations are being finalised now.

So regardless of whether you know Durham well or have not been there yet,  if you would like to know more about holding conferences and meetings there, let us know. We are sure you will know more about it in future.
